I don’t know that much about the Detroit Daily Press. No, scratch that, I know nothing at all about the Detroit Daily Press, so I have no idea why they failed after five days. What I do know is how difficult it was to start the Beacon Dispatch here in Beacon, NY back in 2004.
I am proud to say that our run was longer than five days, in fact it was closer to three years, but if you think that James Brigg’s $4.30 an hour looks paltry for his 80+ hours of work, I can tell you that my personal income from the Dispatch was, well, let’s just say that red isn’t such a pretty color.
Then again, there’s something to be said for the pride of a job well done. And we printed one hell of a paper, failure or not.
