I had a little problem yesterday after upgrading my iPhone 3GS to iOS 4. Every time I opened the iPod app the app crashed after about 3-5 seconds. This morning I found the following thread on Apple’s site:
iPod on 3GS iPhone crashing after upgrade to iOS4 | via Apple.com
The short answer to resolution is this…
- Plug your iPhone into your Mac and start the sync process.
- As the sync starts, slide the unlock bar to cancel the sync.
- While the cancel process is completing, open the iPod app.
- You may see a message stating that the sync is canceling, once sync cancel is complete you will see a new message stating that the iPod library is rebuilding.
When the library rebuild is complete the iPod should work fine.
It seems that this is somehow related to Podcasts, as none of my podcasts were visible when the iPod was crashing. Once the rebuild was complete all the podcasts were visible.
Shout out goes to nukular potato on the Apple support boards.
UPDATE:
Apparently, just syncing your phone after the upgrade works as well.
