John Gruber recently posted a link to an article on Novelr about Amanda Hocking, a 26-year-old writer from Austin, MN who has no book deal with any major publisher but who is selling the living daylights out of her e-books on Amazon.com. She’s selling something like 100,000 books a month, USA Today says that she sold over 450,000 copies in January alone, but, until recently, she’s had no professional representation and she’s never had a traditional, physical book deal.
It’s a pretty amazing story and, to me, it says two things:
- Reading isn’t dead.
- Maybe it is possible to get a book out on your own AND have someone read it.
What a great story.
