Intriguingly, the update finally appeared in the App Store on October 30 — the day after Scott Forstall was ousted.
Gruber makes an interesting, and possibly disappointing point here. I just downloaded Google’s search app and, in terms of response time, understanding what I’ve said, and search results, the Google app is vastly superior to Siri. I almost never use Siri and, my desire not to have the details of my life catalogued by Google notwithstanding, I could see using the Google Search app almost every day.
For Apple’s sake I’d hate for Gruber’s assertion to be true, but I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that Forstall was holding this app up in order to make Siri look better.
