The Roundhouse at Beacon Falls

leave a comment

While I wish that they weren’t using so frakking much Flash, The Roundhouse at Beacon Falls website is now live.

The Roundhouse, which has been one of Beacon’s most beautiful eyesores since my wife and I moved to town 20 years ago, is on its way to being transformed into a 20 room hotel, 80 seat restaurant, and spa. Other buildings on the property will become artist live/work space and other permanent housing, and a hydroelectric generation plant for buildings on the property..

The Roundhouse property has the potential to be one of the most stunning spaces in Beacon and it’s obvious from the work already completed that the new owners are not fooling around. Within days of purchasing the property they have begun restoration, cleared dead trees, opened up a stunning view of the waterfall, created trails, and added park benches. Great work and these are only superficial changes.

Kudos and a well-deserved round of applause to the folks responsible!

The Dung Identity

So all you poop aficionados out there… I need a little hand. Found what I think is bear scat in my backyard and I’m wondering if someone with a clue is willing to weigh in.

Is this bear dung? Any way of telling what kind of bear if it is bear dung?

Thanks a million to any willing to weigh in.

How You Do Breakfast When the Power’s Out

leave a comment

Pushing 40 hours now with no power. House is still about 56° with a small fire going in the fireplace. Central Hudson is stating that there still may be no power for a couple of days. Good thing we’re a camping family… eggs on the grill.

A Little Bit of Snowshoeing

leave a comment

Great day today. After a couple of small storms that have created a good solid snow base, today we got a really wet, heavy snow. It’s been snowing hard since about 7:00 AM today and it’s not supposed to stop until sometime late tomorrow afternoon.

As is often the case, we try to get ourselves out into the snow as soon as we can after a good snow falls. Today was just about the best day we’ve had in a couple of years.

After a little work around the house we were able to spend about an hour walking out behind our house in the freshly fallen snow.

Beacon’s Zora Dora, Micro Batch Ice Cream & Paletas

I tweeted about Zora Dora a couple of days ago, while I was enjoying a luscious Strawberry and Anise popsicle.

I should have also pointed out that Zora Dora has a website, and more unusual and delicious frozen treaty flavors than you can shake a popsicle stick at. Several restaurants in the area feature Zora Dora’s frozen delights, but you can enjoy them anytime you like by taking a trip by their shop on Main Street in Beacon, right across from the M&T Bank.

If you find yourself anywhere near the 12508 zip code, I suggest you drop on by.

New Bagel Shop In Beacon

leave a comment

After being on vaca for so long I’ve finally had the opportunity to try out Beacon Bagel on Main Street’s east end.

Made fresh on site and indescribably delicious, although I still think that Zuzu’s has a leg up in the coffee category.
