Dennis Lehane Aims for Something Bigger

leave a comment

If you do this job right, there should be days that are really hard. When I wrote the scene in ‘Mystic River’ where I had to become somebody who’s sexually attracted to a 12-year-old boy, holy God, that was horrible. I shut down for a week after that.

Hands down one of my favorite writers ever.

Virtual TimeClock ’12

leave a comment

My review of Virtual TimeClock ’12 is now up at Macworld.com.

This is a great app and an inexpensive way to track your employees comings and goings. A free demo gives you ample opportunity to test how well this product works, but I don’t think it will take more than a day or two to see just how well this works.

If you’re looking for time clock software I don’t think you can do much better.

QuickBooks 2013 Review

leave a comment

My review of QuickBooks 2013 is now up at Macworld.com.

QuickBooks 2013 Remains pretty much what it was last year (and the year before that and the year before that). There are still some bugs left over from last year and it still lacks the kind of cross platform support that you’ll find in other apps of this nature.

Unfortunate, but true.

AccountEdge Basic Review

Oh, and if AccountEdge Pro proves to be too much accounting for what you need, consider AccountEdge Basic. You can see my review here on Macworld.com.

AccountEdge Pro 2012 Review

leave a comment

My review of Acclivity’s AccountEdge Pro 2012 is up at Macworld.com.

AccountEdge remains and excellent accounting application that has no equal. But, while the application has no problems when it comes to helping you manage your business data, it is beginning to feel a little tattered.

I highly recommend the app, but hope that future versions offer updates to the program’s backend UI.

Note Taker HD for iPad

leave a comment

My review of Software Garden’s Note Taker HD for iPad is up at Macworld.com.

This app, which allows you to capture the kind of information you’d typically write down in a notebook, is a pretty amazing tool. In short, pretty much anything you can write in a standard notebook can be scratched out in Note Taker HD and then printed or emailed as necessary.

A really great app that’s going to stay on my iPad.

My review of Personal Capital for iOS is now up at Macworld.com.

Truly the best personal finance app I think you'll find on your Mac, your phone, or on the Web.
