Yankees’ Derek Jeter Is Back on Field, Keeping the Faith

leave a comment

To the contrary, we almost always did know with Jeter, or believed we knew exactly who he was, and even when we began to think he was a player in decline, Twentieth Century Jeter would invariably resume smacking balls into right-center with that inside-out swing, sliding into second and popping up with a clap of his gifted hands.

Obituary Digs

leave a comment

Perez gave the Yankees less than Carl Pavano did.

Not often that you see a dig like this buried in an obituary. And yes, I’m talking about the dig Mr. Sandomir got in on Carl Pavano in the last paragraph.

Ouch!

Torn ACL for Yankees’ Rivera

leave a comment

A sentiment similar to my own from the town that loves to hate the Yankees.

Rivera is one of the best people in baseball and is nearing the end of a remarkable career, having hinted in spring training that he planned to retire. He deserves to go out throwing that cutter, not on the disabled list.

Here’s hoping we get to see to see him pitch again.

Imagining the Ninth Inning Without Mariano Rivera

leave a comment

If another team had beaten Rivera in the normal course of competition, even in October, it would not have hurt this way.

Not the way I wanted to see Rivera go. Wish he could have tipped his cap at the end of the season.

Hope he has at least one game left.
