Who Listens To George Brett Anyway?

leave a comment

So much for Brett’s assertion that Jeter’s 3000th hit would be a hard one to get. Jeter went yard for this one.

Very happy for the Yankee who made me a Yankee fan.

Yankees’ Negotiations With Derek Jeter Take Ugly Turn

leave a comment

Note to Cashman, et. al., I completely understand that you need to maximize your investment and that you need to consider the fact that if you renew Jeter’s contract you’re looking at something like a 40-year-old shortstop when his contract is finally up. But you best not miss the value of Jeter’s presence on the field and in the clubhouse.

The ONLY reason I became a Yankee fan after being a Yankee hater for most of my life was because of Jeter. He’s a class act and he’s a player who convinced me that being a Yankee wasn’t just about the money. It was about heart and the love of the game.

Don’t do to Jeter what you did to Bernie, it’ll be a mistake that we both regret.

The New Yorker on Bob Sheppard

leave a comment

Postscript: Bob Sheppard | via The New Yorker

A tall, spare, elegant gent—a vertical line of perfect prose—he remained exactly the same, even while the palace around him was losing its profile and waistline, despite rehabs, and eventually had to be wheeled away. Baseball never changes is what we used to think, and Bob Sheppard almost made you believe it.
