I know, this is going to seem incredibly obvious and by extension maybe even make me seem a little stupid in the process, but it occurred to me today, as I was driving in to work, that the iPad has no mouse. Even in the photos with the attached external keyboard. No input device other than your fingers. You can type using a keyboard, but even when writing you’re going to interact with what’s on the screen with your fingers.
I can’t yet say why I think this, but I think that having no mouse is significant. Kind of like having no floppy drive. Kind of like the end of an era. Kind of like maybe this could change computing and the way we work with computers more than I initially thought it would.
