My Uncle Johnny is an experimenter extraordinaire, particularly when it comes to cocktails. Following is a recipe for a Manhattan/Sazerac fusion straight from the master’s laboratory.
Pretty darned tasty!
In an old fashioned glass put:
½ tsp. sugar (try dark brown sugar, it is really mellow)
1 half inch wedge orange, tangerine, or tangelo (include the skin)
1 or 2 maraschino cherries
1 or 2 dashes Angostura bitters
1 or 2 dashes Angostura orange bitters
¼ tsp Pernod or Absinthe
½ tsp sweet vermouth
Muddle all together, mashing in the glass with a wooden muddler or a pestle.
Add 2 ounces bourbon whiskey
Fill glass with ice
Top off with a splash of fizz water.
Stir.
Drink.
