Where the end is here but hasn’t come yet

So, we’re two weeks and one rather large holiday past our variance and yet there’s still no building permit in our hot little hands. I imagine that it should be here soon, but it would be great if it were here now. We might actually be able to get the loan completed and move on to actual construction. Then again, that’s the nature of house-building. It jerks, it burps, it feigns beginnings, only to halt and hang and stall. Rather like some non-mechanical whiplash machine that jerks its way into the dead of winter where beginnings can’t really begin and the end is nowhere in sight.

We’ll hang in though. At least we’re not camping in tents on our front lawn. I’d surely be in huge trouble then.
