Teeny as it may seem, load this baby up and you’ll get a nice view of our living room and dining room all taped up and, two coats from ready to go. (If you want to see a larger version, click here.) Sunday morning the sun was crispy clean and it really lit up the inside of the house. Tapers had been there Friday and Saturday laying on the first coat.
I’m actually a bit surprised at just how bright the house is. Because of the way it was situated, the old house really wasn’t bright at all, even on days like the one pictured above. And our goal in this house wasn’t to let the sun shine in, it was really to take as much advantage of the stream as possible. The sunshine is just a fringe benefit.
The light in the house is really gorgeous, especially when it’s shining through the Prairie windows. The shadows on the walls and floors are beautiful. (This is also true when the moonlight shines in. There’s a crisp clean blue light broken up by the muntins in the windows. Absolutely delicious!)
Our bedroom is especially lovely. The high windows (or should I say the “accidental” high windows?) bring light to places we hadn’t planned on. At one point during the morning there was light reaching all the way down our hallway, which you can see while you’re standing in the bedroom’s entryway or from the master bathroom. It’s little teases such as these that let you know there’s something really special down the hallway.
One of the things I loved about the bedroom I grew up in was the morning light. In the old house the bedroom was in the front and away from the light. Even on bright days it seemed really dark. This room will be just the opposite. But fortunately, the sun is indirect, so it won’t be blinding and it won’t drive you out of bed. It will just be cozy and delightfully bright.
