And another day in Dullsville…

While my good friend Mr. Cohen, who has a fair amount of his own sweat equity in this house, spends his days doing TRIAL prep, Werner Baumann spends his doing TILE prep. So we’re off to the races here.

By tomorrow afternoon we should have a bathroom and a mud entrance ready for grout and Wednesday we’ll be grouted downstairs and prepped for tile upstairs in the children’s bathroom. Once all the tile is complete we’ll be on our way to hardwood.

Woo hoo!

No disparagement to house painters meant here, but painting is dull, which is why I’ve done very little in the way of posting over the last several days. I mean really, how many pictures of guys wiping paint onto walls do you really want to see?

Truth is, we probably could have left well enough alone on the painting front. As I said in an earlier missive, the white Devoe Sheetrock primer was nice enough to leave on the walls until the insanity of housebuilding was over. Then again… it does make sense to paint colors before there’s hardwood on the floors. The cleanup process is easier too.

The first picture is looking from the kitchen to the living room. We used a Benjamin Moore color called Goose Down, which is a beige with a slightly pinkish hue we’re hoping will tie in well with the cherry cabinets we chose for the kitchen. The second picture is of the bonus room over the garage. That’s Benjamin Moore Wet Concrete on the vertical walls, China White on the rakes, and the Devoe white primer on the ceiling. The final shot is a view from the living room looking into the kitchen. That’s a Benjamin Moore Beach Glass on the walls.

As with any photograph, unless it’s done in a studio with really good lighting (and even then it’s not so hot) the colors you see here in no way represent reality. These colors are gorgeous in real life but cheesy dull in photos. (Another reason not to post these buggers eh?) What really impresses me about these paints is how much the colors change depending on the light that’s coming into the house. Absolutely gorgeous. Can’t wait to see what it looks like once the leaves start to appear on the trees.

For those of you in warmer climes, that won’t be for another 45 days or so.

Feel free to rub it in.
