In days that is…
It’s hard to believe, but it was one year ago today that we began the demolition on our old house. For those of you with QuickTime, you can revisit that day. Or, if you prefer, you can take some time and read about it on the archives page.
It’s been a wild ride to be sure, especially since we were pretty certain that we’d be enjoying Spring 2005 in our new house when we started this gig at this time last year. Never quite works out the way you expect it to though does it?
As of today, Werner Baumann has completed the tile work in the the three areas he started las week and will return again in about three weeks to tile the master bedroom bath. TJ and his crew have begun nailing down the hardwood, so we should see some pretty serious progress by the end of the day today.
In terms of centuries, in some ways it does seem as if that much time has passed. (Actually, the three to four months we spent trying to find someone to complete the framing work after Matco Construction split the scene was insanely long.) But it’s pretty clear now that there’s an end in sight. By next week we’ll be installing doors and trim and waiting for the kitchen cabinets to arrive.
It does always take longer than you think, even if you do everything in your power to make sure it all runs on time. One year later I wouldn’t change that much, save for the fact that I’d attempt to pick up some kind of crystal ball off of eBay to determine who would screw me ahead of time and who would do me right.
Then again, maybe I wouldn’t have started the project at all.
