Pages '09

My review of Pages ’09 went up at Macworld.com yesterday. (Didn’t post the link yesterday because I was in court with an attorney putting up a Keynote presentation of medical records. I used the new Keynote Remote iPhone app. More on that to follow later.)

Pages ’09 is a great word processing app. For the first time since its initial release I’m finding that it may well be possible for me to use Pages, and nothing more, as my only word processing application. Although, to be honest, my word processing needs are pretty basic. I need to type words, share those words with others using Word, and track changes and comments with those same people. I also prefer to work in a distraction free environment, which is why I’ve taken to using the stellar WriteRoom application.

Yet, while my needs are pretty basic, Pages now goes well beyond my basic needs, extending itself well beyond what’s good for me and making it great for the vast majority of users. Pages ’09 has better (though still imperfect) mail merge capabilities, much better integration with Numbers, EndNote and MathType support, a very good Full Screen mode, and literally dozens of minor, but desireable updates that make the app pure pleasure to work with.

In short, I may be in love. Can’t guarantee that you will be too, but I’m betting that you’ll find Pages ’09 to be far better than any of its predecessors.
