Which attests to the appeal of a well covered porch…

Saturday brought some seriously muggy weather combined with some wickedly thunderous and rainy weather. When I arrived at the house after Saturday morning soccer I found a young couple sitting on our front porch, looking at the stream and seeking cover from the impending rain. They were up from NYC for the day to take in a day in the country.

They were in Beacon by accident actually. They’d expected to be hiking in Bear Mountain State Park, which is about 20 minutes south of here, but they’d missed the train to Manitou, which only runs twice daily on weekends. So, they stayed on the train, got off in Beacon, and headed for the mountain. As the thunderstorm started they saw our porch and ran for cover. We had a nice visit and after the bomber storm let up, they headed out to enjoy the rest of the day.

Rain kept me from doing much of the cleanup work I wanted to on Saturday. Instead I installed the handset on the front door, which took longer than I expected. Fortunately I was able to do some clean up on Sunday.

The handset looks wonderful and works really well. The door, as I’ve probably said a thousand times, is amazing beyond anything we could have hoped for. Todd at Craftsmandoors.com steered us in the the most perfect direction possible. While the size seems massive when you talk about it (the door is 8′ tall by 3′ wide) anything smaller would have been a joke. It looks perfect from the outside and is incredibly substantial fromt the inside. It’s interesting how many people take note of the size of the door once they’re inside the house. From the outside it suits the house perfectly and gives the entry a presence all its own. Kudos to Todd on the brilliant direction and again, thanks a million! The handset is Emtek’s Arts and Crafts style set in a oil rubbed bronze finish. (US10B) Yummy!

The grouted tile around the tub looks wonderful as well, but the hot weather is keeping us from finishing the grout for a couple of days. The grout is drying too quickly in the heat and making it impossible to finish properly. But the stuff that’s done makes you want to hop right in that tub.

16 days and counting ’til we move in.

Yea baby!!
