I don’t go in for games much, but if I do it’s usually something mindless and simple that I can play during the few idle minutes that I’m waiting for the elevator or sitting on hold.
Zen Bound is just such a game, although it’s likely to steal more minutes than a typical phone call or elevator ride lasts.
The game play is simple, but challenging, the idea being to wrap a piece of rope around a wooden sculpture. You’re required to wrap at least 75% of the object with rope before you can move on to the next level, but the challenge is to twist the rope so that 100% of the object is wrapped. There are no time constraints, so it’s a game of quality, rather than a race to finish as quickly as you can. (Thus, I guess, the Zen…)
The game is beautiful to play, each of the screens is stunning, as the image links should show. And the musical score is stunningly gorgeous. (As one splash screen says, “Designed For Headphone.” Indeed, you’ll enjoy the game quite a but more if you’ve got your headphones on. In fact, when I registered I was provided with a link to download the entire soundtrack for free.
I love this game and I’m guessing that you will too.
Another of my favorites is Quordy, a Boggle-like game that I’ve found myself playing a couple of times a day for a bit of challenging, not-so-mindless fun. Although the unfortunate downside to Quordy is how quickly you realize that you aren’t the word maven you thought you were.
