Interesting bit at The Outside Blog today about Alex McInturff, a 23-year-old student from Stanford who is retracing John Muir’s 1868 trip from San Francisco to Yosemite. McInturff’s intent is to see if he can assess how much the California landscape has changed since Muir originally took the trip. McInturff will document his trip on a blog called California Transect. Interesting reading all the way around.

Another interesting bit on the Outside site is a reprint of Sebastian Junger’s original story, called The Storm, which was the foundation for his book The Perfect Storm.
One of the things that continues to intrigue me about this story, and the book that it became, is how little we think about storms as they “safely pass us by” and head out toward those who work at sea.
