This fall my sister and brother-in-law are running the Disney Half Marathon in support of the Top of The Mountain Children’s Disease Foundation and their niece Audrey Orr.
The impetus for the creation of Top Of The Mountain came out of a very personal experience for John and Darrelyn Orr, Audrey’s parents:
The organization was established by John & Darrelyn Orr, in honor of their daughter who contracted Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in February 2008, when she was not even 20 months old. It is their daughter’s journey through the uncertainty of cancer that inspired them to open the doors of Top of the Mountain for the benefit of other families facing similar uncertainties.
Inspiration also came in the form of family members and friends who ran and walked marathons, and biked long distances, all to raise funds for important charities such as the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and Lance Armstrong Foundation. Others donated gifts for charity, walked their neighborhoods to raise funds, and grew hair for the Locks of Love organization.
Today, the Orrs’ daughter is doing well and, with good fortune and continued strength, she will lead a life as normal as anyone. To be clear, however, Top of the Mountain was not established to raise money for the benefit of their family, their doctors or support network in any way. Rather, it was established exclusively for the benefit of others.
I’d love it if you’d support my sister and brother-in-law as they raise money for this very worth cause.
Addendum: My brother is running too, don’t hate him ’cause it’s only a 5K. But feel free to donate in his name too. Think of it as more money for your kilometer.
