Is a sign of the times…

Rain did not deter the stone guys today. Instead, in a flash of day-before brilliance, they wrapped the chimney in a tarp to keep it dry for today’s work. This, of course, also meant that we couldn’t run the heat last night. As we would have created a carbon monoxide death trap or, at the very least, a fire hazard if we had. Fortunately for us, last night’s temperature was a balmy 50º, so we were fine running the direct vent gas fireplace to keep us all cozy.

With the chimney dry from the roof to the smokestack—does anybody use that word any more?—René and the gang have now nearly finished the whole thing.

You can see that there’s not that much more to complete. A couple of hours (+ cleanup) at most. And then however long it’s going to take to tear the scaffolding down.

It’s looking pretty good from the street too, although you’ll only be able to catch a glimpse of it as you zip down the road.

Speaking of zipping down the road… if you do you’ll miss seeing just how lovely the stream is this time of year.
