Hol(e)y Cow!
It’s difficult to imagine just how quickly a house can go from standing tall to a a pile of rubble. So, if you’re ever in the market for a little smackdown and you want to make sure you see it all, take this little lesson to heart.
We were running about 5 minutes late on Monday morning. We had our normal school routine, which got waylaid a bit by a sour tummy and the usual morning politics. The actual demo was scheduled to begin at 8:30 AM, we arrived at 8:35. When we pulled up on the road behind the house we could see that the garage was already gone and the house had been pulled off the foundation. The three kids and I raced out of the car, I handed the digital video camera to my daughter, forgetting to take the lens cap off, and had her start filming. I took out the analog camera (is that what we call these things now?) and snapped about 5-10 pictures one right after the other. We removed the lens cap from the DVR and started filming, rather than creating a sound recording, of all that was taking place. By the time I started shooting pictures with the digital camera, the pictures you’ll see here shortly, the house was already fairly well crushed.
10 minutes my friends. 10 minutes from full standing structure to ultimate smackdown.
Following is a very brief slideshow of the activity, which shows what I was able to get on the digital camera in the morning, as well as several shots from later in the day. You will need Quicktime in order to view the show. So if you don’t have it download it first using the previous link. The slideshow is about 3 megs, so if you’re using a dialup connection you may want to start the download and then go make a sandwich or something. So here you go! Enjoy the show!
