In various states of undress…

bodies.gifSaturday morning all five of us journeyed south to NYC to take in Bodies the Exhibition at South Street Seaport. It was nothing short of amazing and honestly more than you could hope to absorb in 3 hours time. While the show isn’t for the squeamish—each of the bodies on display are real cadavers that have been polymerized and which are in various states of dissection—it gave us all an amazing insight into just how intricate, beautiful, and wonderful our bodies are.

The most interesting and beautiful part of the whole exhibition—which is saying a lot—was the the circulatory system display. This darkened room contained about 20 individual specimens consisting only of the human venous system. Here all the veins and arteries were filled with a red-colored polymer and then the rest of the body was “washed” away leaving only an intricate web of human plumbing behind. It all gave you the sense that we’re nothing more than animated cobwebs and it was probably one of the most amazing and beautiful things I’ve seen in my lifetime.

If you have the opportunity it’s most definitely worth the time.
