Finally, a glimpse of winter…

After a long stretch of cold without the satisfaction of snow to go along with it, we’ve finally gotten a blast of real winter weather. It started early yesterday morning with what looked like really small hail. There was so much of it that it was falling off the roof like real rain. Although, unlike rain, it was piling up on the porch like sand at the end of the fall. (There’s still a 1′ pile sitting there right now.)

When the snow really began to fall sometime after noon it piled up nicely. What’s really beautiful is that, because of the cold, the stream has frozen solid. So now it’s completely covered in snow, with no little black band of water running through the middle. Although you can still hear the water trickling underneath the ice.

I believe that there’s some snowshoeing in my weekend now!
