Keep me away…

So, spring has sprung and along with spring also comes the inevitable equation: 2(sports) + 3(kids)=0(time). Around this neck of the woods we do spring cleaning sometime in July. And house projects get put on hold indefinitely.

Fortunately, the Memorial day weekend does bring some relief, so I was able to tackle the 2-foot tall weeds that we call a lawn, the pile of dirt in front of the house that’s been sitting there since sometime last year, and a half-dozen or so minor repair projects that have piled up over the last year or so. All of these are now items that have finally been scratched off of the to-do list.

Next on the list are the porch posts that have been waiting since December to be installed. I hope to install the posts, sand the deck, and seal it with Penofin over the next 3-4 weeks.

On a final note, my mom sent me a link today from an article in the SF Chronicle about the challenges of acting as General Contractor on your own remodeling/building project. While I no doubt would have handled my GC job the same way—save for the hiring of my errant framers—the article is definitely a worthy read for anyone interested in attacking a major remodeling or building job on their own.

Oh, and did I fail to mention that I’m currently being audited by NYS for sales tax deductions I took in 2004 while I was working on my house? They were all legit deductions, but what a pain in the tuckus. And nerve-wracking to boot.
