Come and see it up close and personal…

On Saturday Beacon artist and muralist (and my friend) Rick Price hung the mural that he’s been working on for months and which he created for the Howland Public Library in Beacon. Rick was kind enough to write an article for the Dispatch about why he wanted to create the mural and how he raised funds and got the City and Library Board approvals for the project.

Rick’s mural work can currently be seen at locations such as the St. Francis Hotel in San Francisco and the Redlands Country Club. Rick is also a gifted fine artist. You can view a small sampling of his work at his web site.

The raising of the mural ended up being a community project. The frame was created by a local carpenter and the hangers, which needed to be quite substantial, were designed and created by an artisan from Tallix in Beacon. Everyone in attendance then helped to lift the mural into place.

The photos below, while beautiful, hardly do the mural justice. If you have time (and can make it to Beacon) you’ll find the mural permanently located on the front, outside wall of the Howland Public Library, 313 Main Street, Beacon, NY 12508.
