And tomorrow we pour…

Tomorrow at 1:00 pm, or thereabouts, the concrete for the foundation walls will be poured. It’s a huge step and the final step before what seems like “instant progress” makes its grand appearance. What’s amazing is that now, for the first time, and since the basement walls are essentially up, you can really get a feel for what the house will be. We walked around the basement tonight, rounded the house to see what it would look like from the backyard and the street. Overall? It’s going to be beautiful. You really get the sense that it’s nestled into the woods. And it seems, as was our plan, that the house is one with its environment; that it’s part of the little world it’s being built into.

There is some deception here though. (this is rule of thumb #1 of construction) Suddenly the house seems large again. The poured footings made the house seem small. Almost no bigger than what we had before. But the foundation walls make the house feel immense again. Bigger than it actually is. The real size will not make its appearance until the house is finally complete. And even then I imagine that there will still be deceptions. Nonetheless, even though we only have forms in place, the house appears to be a thing of beauty.

PS- One note of editorial importance here… I’m in the loop this time! I do know the concrete is coming.

Ta Daaa!!!
