And washing away the sins of the past…
If you think your past won’t catch up with you, think again. Two years ago, when we finished the house, I had put down some nice new mahogany decking with the full intention of sealing it before the end of the summer. But the truth of the matter was that I was exhausted, having just built the house, and really did not have the energy or the will to complete the job. “Next year,” was the mantra of the day.
Well, “next year” has graduated to the “year-after-next” and the porch, I’m afraid to say, has suffered the consequences. Tired, weathered, and mossy, the deck is nowhere near its original glory and it’s not so simple now to slap on a coat of Penofin and move on.
Today is orbital sander day. A get-down-on-your-knees-and-scrub sort of day that should reveal the beauty of what once was and the folly of putting off ’til tomorrow what you can do today.
I expect that this will take the better part of the day to complete and then tomorrow it’s on to Penofin-ishing.
Ah the beauty…
