In a house of cards…
Yesterday marked two weeks since the crane day rainstorm that put the brakes on framing for a solid two weeks. Today, thankfully, the framing has begun again. At noon the rafters over the garage were being laid in and by the end of the day today we should have the entire roof completed.
Let us now breathe a big sigh of relief.
But this brings up an interesting point. Up until the crane debacle, we had been running along rather smoothly. Framing was flying along and we were right on schedule as far as the structure was concerned. Then the rain came, and the wind blew, and the lightning flashed, and two weeks later we were wondering when (or whether) the house was ever going to get framed again.
It just goes to show you how fragile a construction plan can be. Rain, lightning, and wind on one day either side of Thursday, August 12th and the house is now framed, roofed, windowed and on its way to being sided. But a poorly timed rainstorm on the morning of the day you’ve scheduled a crane—which, of course, we had to schedule more than a week in advance—and all the planning in the world quickly becomes a house of cards.
Is it any wonder that I traded this line of work in for an office and a desk?
