Not even Lemony Snicket can make this stuff up…
(…continued)
So, when we last left our hero he had just watched framer #2 bolt from the scene. Framer #2 was angered at the fact that our hero was requesting that he keep his booty with an entire crew on the jobsite until such time that the work was completed as promised. Framer #2 felt “threatened” when told that he wouldn’t be paid for work he didn’t complete.
Shortly after #2 walked off the job I placed a call to framer #1. He was home with strep, but said he’d come the next day to sheet the roof. (Mind you, framer #2 said that sheeting the roof would require a CREW. Framer #1 said it would require me cutting sheets and him on the roof. Sense a difference?) I also asked Steve Cohen and his son Dan to come by and give me a hand if they were available.
At 9:45 am on Saturday I left the soccer field and made my way to our house to meet framer #1 and the Cohen clan. We began by setting up compressors and generators and stringing powerlines and pneumatic lines around the house. Then the clan Cohen began handing sheets of plywood from the ground to me on the second floor.
When I say that sheeting flew I tell no tales. One hour after we started we had already sheeted up to where the chimney was supposed to be. This was where the rest of the fun began. For the next two hours framer #1 hung his booty out over the edge of the roof and built enough chimney for us to sheet aroundâ€â€about 7 feet. Then we had to build some funky crickets before we could finish sheeting the chimney and the rest of the roof.
By 5:00 pm #1 and I had completed the job. (The Cohen clan had to leave at 3:30) We barely missed the rain, which began to come down rather heavily about 10 minutes before we were able to nail down the last sheet of plywood.
As of today, the roofing is on nearly all the roof. We still have a small section fo roof to frame yet, which goes over the porch which comes off of our bedroom. That will not be completed until sometime next week.
So here we are… still waiting for some completion. Hard to believe that next week marks three months from our framing start date. Interestingly, it also marks one year from the time that we originally planned to start building the house.
Yet and still, it’s amazing what a difference a year makes.
