Day two has been glorious. Woke this morning to a thick, blue fog covering the entire area, which didn’t burn off until nearly noon, and which provided a great cover for the morning’s activities.
We started off the day with tie-dye t-shirts, then we spent about an hour at a pond study. Because the weather was so great we had amazing success in the pond. Lots of tadpoles, large dragonfly nymphs, and other water bugs. And the best part was that everybody caught quite a few creatures.
After lunch we learned about preadators and their prey, then played a game called Predator & Prey.
We finished off the day with all the students playing djembe with Jeff Haynes and reading the spoken word poetry they’d written about slaves fleeing to Canada via the Underground Railroad.
We finished off the evening with a reenactment of the Underground Railroad, complete with slave catchers, abolitionists, and a safe arrival in the north.
Once again, a wonderful day.
