I’m always looking for new toys to occupy my time when I’m in between. In between meetings, standing at the elevator, and, uhm… somewhat indisposed. For the last couple of weeks I’ve been enjoying two rather fun games, both of which can be played during a couple of minutes of free time with a considerable amount of satisfaction for those few errant minutes.
First up is Strategery, (lite version here) a Risk-like game that can be played all by yourself or passed between several people. All the maps are generated randomly and can be changed with a shake of your iPhone. You can changed the map sizes and the difficulty of the game as well as several other gameplay features. The game is great fun and an enjoyable challenge.
The second game is one I learned about in a tweet from the Silversun Pickups. I bought it shortly after I saw the post and haven’t been able to put it down since. Flight Control is an air traffic control simulation that, as of last night, has been updated to include two new landing strips and a few new airplane types. The idea behind the game is simple, you have a number of landing strips and a sky full of planes that you have to help land safely on these strips. The first few moments of the game are pretty easy, as only one or two planes enter the the screen at once. But as gameplay continues the sky fills with more planes of varying size and speed that you need to safely direct to the landing strips. Obviously, the more planes the greater the challenge.

I’m yet to land better than 48 planes, but it’s incredibly good fun giving it a try, and the kind of fun that only takes a few minutes time, which is typically the only kind of time I have to waste.
