Just able to squeeze a little in before the sun went down…
With 40º weather on the horizon and the past weekend too full to allow for a snowshoeing trip, Kathy and I decided that I should trip out of work a little early so we could get at least a few minutes of snowshoeing in. Last year we’d get storms early in the week and by the following weekend the snow would melt off, so we figured that we’d better try to get out before we had a second year of no snowshoeing.
Colin came along for the ride, but having already spent about an hour playing in the snow, his toes started to get cold soon after we started. We walked about 1/2 mile together then Kathy and Colin headed back for home. (Where Kathy started making a delicious spinach soup!)
I walked on for another 45 minutes or so taking a new trail that Scenic Hudson had opened a little over a year ago. It was only a matter of minutes before I could see the City of Beacon starting to light up down below. I didn’t have a tripod so I had to settle for holding the camera against a tree to steady it. Unfortunately there’s still a little too much shake to the picture. I do love the blue haze of dusk though, just as the sun begins to set into the west.
It was almost dark when I got home. But it was nice to have at least a few minutes to enjoy the solitude. I can’t say enough how happy I am that this is all right out our back door.
